Curriculum Overview

International Early Years programme (IEYC)

International Early Years Curriculum for children aged 2–5 years old (Preschool to Prekindergarten).
The IEYC recognizes global best practice in early childhood education and the developmental needs of 2-5 year olds. It supports key areas of learning through holistic enquiry and play-based approaches that cover all curriculum areas including personal, social and emotional development.
Being practical and play based (no worksheets or textbooks), the IEYC (like the International Primary Curriculum for older pupils) can be used in a bilingual context with the children, either to support bilingual development or to make links across different language streams.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

International Primary Curriculum for children aged 5 – 11 years old (from Kindergarten-grade 5) .It is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum, with a clear process of learning and specific learning goals for every subject. It also develops international mindedness and encourages personal learning.

The IPC makes an excellent lead into the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) that follows in Grade 6.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

MYP for students aged 11 – 16 years old (for Grades 6-10)

American International School uses the International Baccalaureate ‘Middle Years Programme’ (MYP) as the curriculum framework for the Secondary School. The MYP is a five year programme designed to prepare students for the IB Diploma Programme.

Diploma Programme (DP)

DP for students aged 16-19 (grades 11-12)

It is a comprehensive and challenging two-year upper secondary school curriculum leading to the award of a diploma. It provides an international university entrance qualification.

Course work is both internally and externally moderated together with externally set examinations at the end of the two-year course study. The Programme is unique in that it allows for subject specialisation as well as providing a breadth of subject study.
